Laser Therapy

Pets arrive at Shamrock Animal Hospital for a variety of reasons and our simple goal is to bring them back to good health as quickly as possible.  Laser therapy plays a crucial role in doing that and allowing everyone to get back to normal as quickly as possible.

When we hear the word “laser”, we often think about something out of a deep space movie.  In reality, laser technology and therapy have been used in human medicine since the 1970’s.  What we have found in the animal world is that laser therapy is a key component to ensuring a speedy recovery.  It has applications in both short and long term care situations.

Pets take on a different personality while getting laser therapy.  Sporting their “stylish” goggles for eye protection,  laser light is delivered through a non-invasive handpiece to treat an affected area.  They feel a gentle and soothing warmth.  As the laser is administered, many pets will relax, much like you would experiencing a good massage.  With almost immediate relief from their pain, any anxiety or discomfort that your pet may be feeling will dissipate.

Occasionally, we see angry cats who begin to purr like kittens and a few dogs have actually fallen asleep during treatment.

Finally, the laser is used in every dental or sugical procedure performed to help promote the healing of incisions or sore gums and teeth.

Below is just a sampling of conditions that laser therapy helps:

  • Arthritis
  • Hot spots
  • Ear infections (otitis)
  • Bruising and burns
  • Neck pain
  • Sprains and strains
  • Degenerative Joint Disorders
  • Muscle/Ligament Disorders
  • Tendon/Ligament Injuries
  • Bruising
  • Post-Operative Pain Relief
