History of the Hospital

Shamrock Animal Hospital has been serving the families of Lake County for more than 30 years.

In 1988, Greg & Donna Shamrock returned to Mount Dora, Florida to open an animal hospital based on their love for animals and an undying commitment to providing the very best in veterinary care.

The result of their passion was a thoughtfully designed and constructed facility that was comfortable and welcoming to people and pets alike.

For years, clients have come to Shamrock Animal Hospital knowing that they would be treated well and their pets would be treated even better!

If you ask though, clients who have been coming to Shamrock for decades will tell you that what makes the experience complete is the Shamrock team.

From the warm welcome in the lobby where we take the time to catch up on family events since the last time we saw you, to the extra care and love that your pets receive when they come in for a nail trim or a bath (we like to call that a “Spa Day”), we pride ourselves on working hard to be a part of your extended family.

In 2016, after raising two boys, serving thousands of pets and families in the area and being an integral part of the community, Donna and Greg were ready to hand the Shamrock legacy off.  They were, rightfully so, very particular about the person/people that they wanted to carry on the Shamrock tradition. They wanted to be comfortable entrusting the care of these thousands of pets to a new leader at Shamrock Animal Hospital.

On a Sunday evening in July of 2016, Drs. Shamrock & Shamrock met Dr. Raquel Fagan for the very first time.  The chemistry was immediate.

After a tour of the facility, conversation moved through topics of patient care, customer service, family, faith and friendship.  More discussions over the next few days led Donna and Greg to feel relieved that they had found the right person and family to lead Shamrock Animal Hospital into the future.

Growing up in Ocala, Florda, Raquel’s parents always knew two things:  she wanted to be a veterinarian and to be a Florida Gator!  She arrived in Gainesville in the summer of 1985 and in 1993, after 8 years, Dr. Fagan left the University of Florida as one of the newest graduates of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.

Since graduating, Dr. Fagan has served the animal health needs of families throughout Central Florida based on the simple idea that every patient is unique and deserves the individual care and attention that her education and experience have blessed her with.

On October 14, 2016, Dr. Fagan achieved one of the last remaining milestones in her career – owning and leading her own practice.
